In the annals of legends one never knew existed comes country singer Wheeler Walker Jr.
The self-described recluse who claims to have been dropped by three major labels is set to release a three-song EP on Oct. 30. It includes the single and title track, “F--- You Bitch," which was produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) and whose video features Kings of Leon's Jared Followill and model wife Martha Followill. Billboard is exclusively premiering the expletive-laced video below.
Impressive co-signs and an endorsement from SiriusXM’s Outlaw Country channel aside, if Walker is looking to take Nashville by storm, the NSFW content of his debut release (“Beer, Weed, Cooches” and “Better Off Beatin’ Off” complete the track list) may be a barrier to entry for the Lexington, Ky., native. After all, issuing a debut single with the title “F--- You Bitch” is a route someone might take to the top of the hip-hop chart, but it’s a less certain path to conquering the Billboard Country Songs canon.
Not that Walker seems to care much. "Everything I write is autobiographical and I don't censor myself, that's for those hypocrites at Wal-Mart and shit," Walker tells Billboard. He calls "F--- You Bitch" "the most honest country ballad to come out in years." On Twitter, Walker vows that his album "will outsell Adele's new piece of shit you have my WORD on that.”
All of this may leave you wondering, is this guy for real? That may be the point as clearly Walker doesn't mind burning bridges (he calls label executives "museum tour guides at this point"). Adds Walker: "For the record, the only real and true country artist out there worth two shits is yours truly."
